All About the CGRA
On September 13th, 1981, a new rodeo association elected its first officers with 42 people present and made its first public appearance at a community fundraiser that evening. Open membership was held on December 1st, 1981 and signed up 94 founding members. Thereafter, membership continued to climb and the next 18 months were frantic and filled with enthusiasm.
History records June 3rd, 1983 as the date that the Denver metropolitan area became the second location in the United States to stage a gay rodeo. To date, more than $2 million has been raised and donated to AIDS-related charities from over 200 gay rodeos.
